Well…The first day of Gamescom today, and there have been some massive announcements. Microsoft, EA and Sony all had something to shout about over in Cologne, Germany.
Microsoft were the quieter of the three. Their main announcement was the Kinect UK release date, which was reported on the site earlier today. Along with that though, the did announced a couple of new PC games. One of which being Age Of Empires Online, which, as I’m sure you can guess by the title, is an online game. You can still do the quests alone if you wish, but obviously the main factor with this game is being able to play through the quests with friends. Microsoft also announced Microsoft Flight. Not too much info on this game, but its the next flight simulator game’s from Microsoft.
Moving swiftly on to EA. Now EA, again had a couple of major announcements. One of which is that Mass Effect 2 will be release on the Playstation 3, along with some bonus content. Mass Effect 2 was previously only available on Xbox 360 and PC. They also showed a trailer for Dragon Age 2. This is due for release March 2011. The game is said to be more responsive to players controls. The new Harry Potter game (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) WILL be Kinect compatible. How well this will work is yet to be seen, but it looks like this is going to be the first ‘big’ game that is going to be compatible with Kinect. Along with these, The latest Need for Speed and Dead Space 2 both had their game play showcased.
Finally, moving on to Sony.Sony seemed to have the biggest announcements of the three. First off, introducing two new consoles. A 320gb and a 160gb model. The 320gb model will come with a Playstation Move starter kit. This includes a PlayStation Eye, PlayStation Move controller and demo disc. Gran Turismo 5 has a release of November 3rd here in the UK…Whether or not this will change again is still yet to be seen! A trailer was shown of inFamous 2 and it shows the character Cole McGrath back in action. Insomniac showcased the latest Ratchet and Clank game, called All 4 one. It’s an online multi player game where players drop in and out of the game. It’s not due to be released until the end of next year, so expect more info on this one over the next year or so! And now we move on to what was quite possibly the biggest announcement of the day. Now there’s one game which PS3 owners have been asking about for a while, with no confirmation on whether the game will be made or not. Well finally it was announced today that Resistance 3 will be coming to Playstation 3! No further information was said. Just a 3 minute announcment trailer, So expect alot more info on that one when we get it!.
Well that rounds up the first day of Gamescom 2010! Some massive announcements and some quite interesting talking points! Now lets look forward to the rest of the convention! I’m going to leave you with the Resistance 3 trailer. Enjoy!
