Last week PlantiumGames released a demo of Vanquish to give us a taste of what this game has to deliver and it doesn’t disappoint. This is a high octane game where speed and cover is everything. The Demo gives you 1 level with 2 difficulty levels and a tutorial to get you use to the controls. The controls are not hardbut I would recommend doing it so you can learn how to use AR suit properly. The demo starts off light and then chucks you into the middle of a huge boss with big killing power.
The first thing I noticed is how great the game is looking, while playing there are guns firing everywhere and explosions going off all around you and I couldn’t stop looking around me rather then where I should be shooting. The controls work very well with the speed of the game, you hit one of the shoulder buttons and you will boost until you overheat or you let go where your then flip out. If you have seen any gameplay videos then you would of seen the slow-mo function your suit gives you aswel. This is only activated if your very low on health so you can get out of danger or you while dodging and then aim down you gun. Cover is a big part of this game because using your suits abilities will make it overheat and once your suit overheats you will need to get behind cover other wise you will be restarting from checkpoint. During the boss battle there is a cut scene of you run up the body and then have to twiddle the thumbstick to cause more damage to the boss, this is a really nice feature to keep you in the action of the game rather then just letting you watch. Sam’s combat is very matrix style with all the flips, slow-mo and over the top melee moves but it works very well.
I found the demo great fun and went back and played many times. One of the reasons I like the game so much is because of the fast paced action and easy controls. The game feels so smooth from boosting on the floor to get into cover and then jumping over the cover and entering slow-mo you unleash your guns on the robots around. The demo gives you a great taste of everything the full game will include with loads of enemies and a big bosses to destroy. I highly recommend you get online and download this demo so you can experience the mayhem of Vanquish for yourself.
